Finding Out
About Brenda Wollenberg
Can finding out the background on a childhood obesity specialist
help your overweight child or teen?
I'd say a resounding "yes!", because before you decide to make dietary
and lifestyle change it is important to find out a little about the
person making the dietary and lifestyle recommendations you are considering adopting!
Starting Off
Initially trained as a social worker, I was employed in the social services field for almost a decade.
I had a number of roles including
supervising group homes and as social worker for an inter-ministerial
residential facility for high-risk adolescents. I truly enjoyed my work, and in counseling teens dealing with a variety of challenges, including eating disorders and obesity, began to greatly increase my understanding of the interplay between the emotional and physical aspects of life!
Next Came . . .
For the subsequent 20 years, I studied—formally and informally—nutrition, natural cooking, fitness, nutritional supplementation and time management. Along the way, I, and my husband, Mark, had 5 amazing children.
In 1986, I formed Choices Lifestyle Management and began teaching and consulting on a wide range of healthy living topics.
Then a Little Bit More
With the children all in school, I too went back for more formal nutritional education
and became a Registered Nutritional
Consulting Practitioner. Both a passion for holistic health and a strong sense of humor
have been major life themes, born of surviving my first 25 years as a
very unwell, and at times, overweight, young woman, and my last 25 years
as a mother of five wonderful but slightly wild and crazy children.
Why I Wrote Overweight Kids in a Toothpick World
I developed the Kids in Balance(KIB) program to help parents safely transition their children from excess weight to a healthy, balanced state. KIB
then shortly began receiving calls from parents requesting help from various places across Canada, and I realized the program needed to be put in a simple, easy to understand and translate-in-the-home format. When families follow the Kids in Balance approach, it works. Therefore it made sense to have a broader range of parents have easy access to the material.
If you purchase Overweight Kids in a Toothpick World, and begin to replace any less than helpful dietary and lifestyle choices with my BALANCE principles, may the glowing, energetic and all-encompassing health
you and your child are looking for, be your family's reward.
Because—while I love writing, and love passing on important health
principles—ultimately I wrote Overweight Kids in a Toothpick World for parents that
have yet to have found a childhood obesity solution...for you and your family.
Hopefully you've now found what you are looking for!
